The Yaz Birth Control Pill

Yaz birth control pill, also known as Yasmin is an oral contraceptive pill. It is totally a different kind of contraception pill as it is used to treat Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) a condition also known by the name Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POS).

How does this pill work? Yaz birth control pill works by preventing the ovaries from ovulating. Ovulation is release of an egg in the fallopian tube. The cervical mucus also thickens and this prevents the sperm from traveling to the egg.

Yaz pill also works by changing the lining of the uterus and due to this the walls of the uterus are less receptive to the fertilized egg. Progesterone in Yaz which is in the form of Drospirenone is similar to the drug spironolactene.

Women who have severe acne and male hormone related problems are prescribed this pill as the hormone has anti-androgenic properties. This is also useful in treating Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.

Side effects, if any disappear after a few weeks.

  • Headache
  • Menstrual changes
  • Breast pain
  • Abdominal or stomach pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Vaginal discharge or yeast infection

In very rare cases, some women experience more severe side effects which could include high blood pressure, heart attack, liver damage, stroke, migraines and blood clot in the leg and lung and breast lump.

Women, who smoke, are asked to avoid this pill, as it would increase the risk of heart attack. People suffering from kidney disease, are also advised against using the pill.

It is considered 99% effective if taken as prescribed. It will also help you have shorter and lighter periods, reduce cramps and regulate the entire ovulation cycle. You must always consult the physician before you start using Yaz birth control pill.
