The Contraception Pill

 Contraception pillWhen the contraception pill was first launched in the year 1960 it lead to a major change in woman’s health and independence, as it gave them the freedom to decide on pregnancy. There are so many new birth control options that are used all over the world but the pill remains the number one favorite. They are taken daily by women in order to avoid getting pregnant.

There are basically two types of contraception pills:

  • Combination pills
  • Mini pills

They both contain both estrogen and progestin while the mini pill contains progestin alone. A vast majority of women prefer the combination pills and they come either in the 21 day pack or the 28 day pack. So how does the pill actually work? Well the answer is quite simple; the hormones in the pill prevent the woman’s ovaries from releasing eggs which is also known as ovulation. The cervical mucus of the woman also gets thick and this prevents the sperm reaching the eggs.

There is also a number of concerns as to how effective the contraception pill really is. If you take the combination pill daily without missing a single day then it has been found to be very effective and as far as the mini pill is concerned you will have to take it daily at the same time as they will help keep the correct level of hormone in the woman’s body.

You will be surprised to know that there are a number of benefits of taking the pill, such as yasmin and it can offer protection against a number of ailments:

  • acne
  • breast growths that are not cancer
  • ectopic pregnancy
  • endometrial and ovarian cancers.
  • iron deficiency anemia
  • ovarian cysts
  • premenstrual symptoms
  • reduce menstrual cramps
  • protects against pelvic inflammatory disease
  • lighter periods

There are some women who could experience some sort of discomfort in the initial days of using the contraception pill which will disappear after a couple of months.
