There are different birth control devices that are available in the market at present. One of them is a diaphragm. It is a rubber concave disk with a flexible rim that can fit in a vaginal canal. By wearing it during intercourse, it will h
elp block the sperm from reaching the uterus. A diaphragm can be worn up to 24 hours.
A diaphragm is usually used with the aid of a spermicide. Before inserting it your vagina, one should apply spermicide on the inner and outer layer of the diaphragm itself. This spermicide is the one that directly kills the sperm. A spermicide should be used every two hours while wearing a diaphragm. This is just to be sure that an egg will not get fertilized.
Before inserting the diaphragm make sure that you have cleaned your private parts and have taken a leak. Be sure to check for any possible holes in the diaphragm this can be done by putting it against the light. One can also fill it up with water just to make sure it does not have any leaks at all.
A diaphragm can either be inserted by squatting or by standing with one leg elevated using a ledge or a chair. To put it in easily, one can fold the diaphragm and insert it as far as possible. A word of warning though, a diaphragm can never help you lessen the risk of being infected with sexually transmitted diseases. Extra precautions still need to be taken.
There are the usual pros and cons in using a diaphragm. One thing is for sure one can use this without your partner knowing that you are wearing one. The only problem is if a wearer forgets to remove it after 24 hours. She will probably experience toxic shock syndrome. This will result to vomiting, diarrhea, and a high fever. There will also be irritation on the outer skin of the vagina and a foul smelling odor will ensue.
